Indian Academy of Cytologists - UP Chapter (IAC-UP) is a non- profit, non-government, and non-religious, society.

The idea of formation of State/regional chapters of Cytology was initiated by “The Indian Academy of Cytologists” to propagate and update the knowledge of cytology in different parts of the country specially for the budding young cytologists who were not able to make to national conferences held at far off places, The idea was to continue the academic activities to encourage residents and young faculty to learn from experienced cytopathologists.

The formation of the IAC-UP chapter was proposed and approved in the year 2012 at IAC national conference held at Bhubaneshwar with an initial core committee under the guidance of Prof Padam Agarwal with an enthusiastic follow up by Dr Ranjan Agarwal and Dr Madhu Mati Goel. The first chapter was held at King George’s Medical University Lucknow, second at Bareilly, third at Moradabad, fourth at Gorakhpur and fifth at SGPGIMS, Lucknow. During these years a need for society registration and framing of Byelaws was felt in order to have an organized activity at the state level in an objective and transparent manner. The task was graciously accepted by the president of UP Chapter, Prof Nuzhat Husain, for its execution. The IAC – UP Chapter will henceforth function as a registered society with its approved byelaws and time to time amendments.
